I reflect on giving thanks. I think back to the first Celebration of Gratitude. I think about White religious refugees from England and Indigenous populations of the American East coast. It's amazing to think how much potential there was for misunderstanding, or giving offense based on unknowable social norms. I am grateful we can study European history without being bound by the Mother Continent's hatreds, religious divisions, and superstitions.
I also like to think on the legacies gifted America by certain continents: Asia, Africa and Europe. It's amazing how much we've been influenced in our culture, laws, language, religion, and literature by these literal Earth Mothers. Everything we have and everything that we are is a product of another generation's errors and successes. We are part of a giant, unbroken change of geneological memory and legacy. Let us continue that heritage and pass it on.
