ETST 2000 CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENTS RESEARCH PROJECT
LEARNING GOAL: Students will be able to identify, investigate and analyze a prominent person or group from American ethno history, circa 1941-1975.
LANGUAGE GOAL: Students will choose a prominent person or group from the World War 2 era and the Civil Rights Movements and create AND present an original, online research project based on their findings.
YOUR TASK:
CREATE AN ORIGINAL RESEARCH PROJECT USING EITHER: 1) PREZI OR 2) GOOGLE SLIDES
YOU WILL CHOOSE A FAMOUS PERSON, GROUP, OR PERSONS ALIGNED WITH THE ETHNIC STUDIES ASPECT OF WORLD WAR 2 OR THE AMERICAN CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENTS.
RATIONALE FOR SAYING "MOVEMENTS" INSTEAD OF "MOVEMENT":
There were at least 3 to 4 distinct American Civil Rights Movements:
1. The African American Civil Rights Movement
2. The Hispanic/Latina/o Civil Rights Movement
3. The Asian American Civil Rights Movement
4. The Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgendered/Queer Civil Rights Movement (Stonewall Riots, 1969)
5. The Native American/Indigenous Peoples Civil Rights Movement (Wounded Knee, etc)
All of the Movements communicated freely with each other on a regular basis. They frequently used tactics such as non violent protests, boycotts, and sit ins to effect social change in the United States. Cesar Chavez and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. often exchanged letters and phone calls to discuss and monitor their groups' tactics and strategy.
The negative aspects of American society that required change were, in no particular order:
1. Segregation (in public schools and other venues)
2. the Vietnam War
3. Discrimination in the workplace (Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta were particularly known for this.)
4. Discimination in daily life
Your project:
-needs to be between 10-15 slides long.
-contain a minimum of 8 pictures.
-cite at least 3 reputable online or other sources.
