Above is the crest and motto of my ancestral Scottish Clan, the MacDonalds. Our motto translates as "By Land and By Sea." At one time the MacDonalds were the largest, most powerful, and most influential of all the Scottish clans.
I was born in Eugene, Oregon um...a while ago. My Mom (Joan Lynn McDaniel, RN) and my dear Dad (Professor Alex V. Delgado) were both born in Denver. My dad was a doctoral student at the University of Oregon when I came a knockin during dinner at a Chinese restaurant. We moved back to Denver when I was only 4 months old. My paternal grandparents were from Denver and San Antonio, Texas. My maternal grandparents were from Oregon and Nebraska. My mother's great grandparents were Nebraska homesteaders who emigrated from Bavaria in Germany in 1882. I count Mexican, Scottish, German, French, English, Apache, and Navajo among the wonderful and vibrant ethnic groups that make up my ancestry. I am very proud of my Latino and Scottish heritage in particular.
This is Eugene, Oregon, home of the University of Oregon and Sacred Heart hospital where I was born.
I was lucky enough to graduate with a BA in World History from the University of Colorado at Boulder. I had a wonderful time at CU! While I was a student there I was an RA (resident assistant) in the residence halls and I worked for the Department of Residence Life as a mail clerk, an information clerk (the people who check out movies and vacuum cleaners to residents), and I also worked at the Law school library on very quiet Tuesday nights. I definitely recommend CU Boulder to anyone who is looking for an outstanding collegiate experience.
I taught English in Fukui Prefecture, Japan for 2 years with the JET (Japan English Teachers) Program. It was a mostly wonderful experience. I studied Aikido and the Japanese language. I had the opportunity to meet a lot of different people from places such as Great Britain, Canada, France, northern Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand. While I wouldn't necessary want to live in Japan again it was also a really great post college opportunity.
This is my wonderful dog, Kuma. He is a 6 year old Norwegian Elkhound. I adopted him from the Buddy Center in Castle Rock, CO during the summer of 2015. That was a very hard time for me as I was enduring a lot of life changes. I'm not sure who saved who! He is my furbaby. He is a great dog though he badly needs training on walks. He also has an unfortunate penchant to...do things to pillows. You haven't lived until you've had to clean up a destroyed feather pillow!
I am completely bonkers for science fiction and epic fantasy novels. I could devote an entire page to just discussing the exciting sub genres in these 2 fields. Probably my favorite series of all time (no pun intended) is The Wheel of Time by the late, great Robert Jordan.
